The term Sheehan`s syndrome refers to those instance of hypopituitarism due to adenohypophyseal necrosis resulting from postpartum hemorrhage. The authors have seen a patient with Sheehan`s syndrome at our OB-GY ward of S.R.C.H recently and both clinical and laboratory findings showing pituitary insufficiency are presented. This patient had a typical history of severe postpartum hemorrhage associated profound shock lasting about 2 hours prior to the onset of this illness, such as amenorrhea, asthenia, incidious weight loss, loss of axillary and pubic hairs, atrophy of external genitalia and breasts, decreased libido, intolerance to cold, nervous irritability and so on. Laboratory data disclosed to the followings ; reduced basal metabolic rate, decreased thyroid I131 uptake, tendency to lowered excretion of urinary 17 ketosteroid, 17 hydroxycorticosteroids and gonadotropin. General consideration of Sheehan`s syndrome were briefly discussed.
